Biography

I did my undergraduate work at UCSD. After brief excursions into computer science and mathematics I ended up doing lots of stuff in philosophy. I became interested in psychology after taking a philosophy of mind class during my junior year abroad (in London). During my final year at UCSD I had the pleasure of working with John Polich. We conducted experiments examining the relationship between EEG activity and ERPs. After finishing my undergraduate degree in philosophy and psychology I came to Harvard (in 1990) where I have been ever since. (Well, not really: I spent about 7 months in Lyon, France where I was lucky enough to work with François Michel and Marie-Anne Hénaff: we did a bunch of neuropsychological research). Here at Harvard I have been working in the vision sciences laboratory under the guidance of the awesome Patrick Cavanagh. Soon I will also be working as a postdoc at Beth Israel Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Jason Barton.

My current research is primarily devoted to visual attention. I am examining the spatial resolution and structure of attention during tracking tasks. I have also done some work (mostly with Josée Rivest) on visual and auditory learning. And I am interested in lots of other visual stuff including phenomenology, drawing, painting, and film.
